11:1 Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.
11:2 Mary was the woman who anointed the Lord with perfume and wiped his feet with her hair. Her brother Lazarus was the one who was ill.
11:3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, saying, “Lord, the one whom you love is ill.”
11:4 But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This illness is not meant to end in death. It is for God’s glory, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
11:5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

11:1 さて、ある人が病気にかかっていた。ラザロといって、マリヤとその姉妹マルタとの村の出で、ベタニヤの人であった。
11:2 このマリヤは、主に香油を塗り、髪の毛でその足をぬぐったマリヤであって、彼女の兄弟ラザロが病んでいたのである。
11:3 そこで姉妹たちは、イエスのところに使いを送って、言った。『主よ。ご覧ください。あなたが愛しておられる者が病気です。』
11:4 イエスはこれを聞いて、言われた。『この病気は死で終わるだけのものではなく、神の栄光のためのものです。神の子がそれによって栄光を受けるためです。』
11:5 イエスはマルタとその姉妹とラザロとを愛しておられた。

26:2 主よ。私を調べ、私を試みてください。私の思いと私の心をためしてください。
139:23 神よ。私を探り、私の心を知ってください。私を調べ、私の思い煩いを知ってください。
139:24 私のうちに傷のついた道があるか、ないかを見て、私をとこしえの道に導いてください。
今、読んできてくださった箇所は、ダビデの祈りです。いろいろなことで悩んでいる人々に、よくお勧めします。詩篇を読んで、祈ってください。祈りながら、詩篇を読みなさい。いいですよ。
ダビデとは、もちろん、完全ではなかった。どうして御心にかなう人と呼ばれたか。祈ったからです。今、読んでもらいました二箇所も、彼の心からの叫びでした。『主よ、私を調べ、・・・・他の人々ではない。』

26:2 Examine me, Lord, and inspect me! Test my heart and mind.
139:23 Examine me, God, and know my mind, test me, and know my thoughts.
139:24 See if there is any offensive tendency in me, and lead me in the eternal way.
These verses we just read are the prayers of David. I always recommend to people in distress and anguish to pray reading the Psalms and read the Psalms with prayers.
David, of course was far from perfect. Then, how was he referred to as the one who pleased God? It was because he prayed. These verses we read above were his heartfelt scream. “Examine me, not someone else, Lord, but examine me and inspect me! Test my heart and mind.” After all, he did not know what to think, what to do. So, he entrusted everything to the Lord's hand.

このあいだに引き続いて、いわゆる、リバイバルの必要性、大切さ、また、可能性について、一緒に考えてみたいと思います。リバイバルという言葉は、確かに日本語ではないようですね。英語の言葉です。意味は、霊的覚醒、あるいは、信仰の復興、信仰の復活を意味します。眠ってしまった信者は、リバイバル、信仰の復興を必要とします。すなわち、イエス様との生き生きとした交わりによって新しくされ、新しく生かされることが必要です。
